UADA helps local governments build urban agriculture programs that last,
not just launch.
Jurisdictions across North America are facing similar challenges and barriers despite their differences in size or governance structures. Our work is built around helping members develop durable policies and programs to embed agriculture into the foundation of planning and development of urban areas.
Our recurring network calls are the engine of this work. Members bring live problems — land access and disposition, zoning and code, funding models, metrics, staffing — and leave with approaches their peers have already tested. Five years of conversations have produced something no single jurisdiction could build alone: a shared body of practice for a field that didn't have one.
How We Do It
Since 2020, UADA has convened practitioners for peer-learning and collective problem-solving, so that one jurisdiction's success can be a roadmap for another.
We advance this work by:

Facilitating collaboration
through recurring member meetings and an annual in-person gathering

Supporting planning and implementation
through practical resources for jurisdictions pursuing, ambitious urban agriculture development

Investing and accelerating solutions
to test and amplify successes

Engaging and educating
key advocates and decision makers on building durable urban agriculture policies and programs

Leveraging our collective voice
to strengthen existing jurisdiction programs and help establish new ones
Across these efforts, UADA works to advance urban agriculture policy through local government-led coordination, while delivering measurable local impacts on food access, health, climate adaptation, and workforce development.
